Springfield & Market

The most “Military and Veteran Friendly City in the United States,” Jacksonville is home to a large and growing Veteran community.  Area military installations such as Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Naval Station Mayport, Kings Bay Naval Base, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Naval Aviation Depot Jacksonville and Marine Corps Blount Island Command support thousands of active duty, reserve and civilian men and women, accounting for 17% of Duval county’s economy and providing nearly 100,000 jobs.  However, studies predict that a majority of these service members will experience difficulty when exiting the military and adjusting to civilian life which can lead to larger problems such as joblessness, homelessness, and untreated mental health conditions.

The Springfield Initiative offers “At-Risk” Veterans clean, safe, and affordable transitional and permanent housing simultaneously preserving and revitalizing one of Jacksonville’s most historic and treasured neighborhoods:

Over $4.5MM in rehabilitation of multifamily, permanent supportive housing for homeless and “At-Risk” veterans (at or below 80% AMI)…

At least 20% of the 68 units will be reserved for Veterans with access to Patriot Transportation Initiative and wrap-around supportive services…

Combination of garden and low-rise developments all within 5 minutes of the Jacksonville VA Outpatient Clinic…

Special locations designated for Women Veterans and their children.
